The first has holes at the top where it was pinned up, presumably by a loved one awaiting the soldier&#8217;s return. Based on the uniform, I&#8217;m pretty confident it dates to World War I.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/burnbridle.com\/zoom\/BlackSoldiersWWI.html#1\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-762\" src=\"https:\/\/burnbridle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/BlackSoldierWWI_Riflesmall.jpg\" alt=\"Black Soldier WWI Rifle(small)\" width=\"498\" height=\"781\" srcset=\"https:\/\/burnbridle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/BlackSoldierWWI_Riflesmall.jpg 498w, https:\/\/burnbridle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/BlackSoldierWWI_Riflesmall-191x300.jpg 191w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second was pretty degraded when I got it, with significant fading and some stains. It was stamped on the back by the photographer, and was taken at\u00a0Greenfield&#8217;s Art Studio, 531 Central Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio.
